When our daughter Cheri was a baby, we nick-named her Cher Bear because she was so round and cuddly. Cheri had a favorite teddy bear that she received from her daddy when she was just two-years-old. This teddy bear provided her with lots of comfort whenever she was sick or feeling sad. As she grew to be a teenager, the bear remained on her bed for her to cuddle up to at night. When Cheri was 16 years-old, she got very sick and was diagnosed with a terminal illness in which her body failed to produce enough energy. This condition was progressive and took over the next eight years of her life. Each time Cheri went to the hospital, her loyal teddy bear followed. The ambulance drivers and medical staff became very familiar with this teddy bear and started applying Band-Aids to the bear every time Cheri suffered a stroke or needed an elaborate test. Over the years, this bear’s Band-Aids represented Cheri’s own battle wounds. Cheri passed away on December 23, 1995. When we said our final good-byes to our beautiful daughter, we told her that she was still our little “Cher Bear.” At the time, her own bear was at her bedside. We give these little Cher Bears in memory of our daughter, in hopes they will provide comfort to those who need it.
